Updated College Football Power Rankings

ANKTEAM
Ohio State (Last week -- 1): Is it possible to look sluggish in a 38-0 win? Perhaps. The Buckeyes are setting their own standard after their fifth shutout in the last 28 games under Urban Meyer. Cardale Jones had 116 total yards in his first home start. Hawaii ended a five-day road trip with memories of a sweet vacation in Columbus.
Alabama (2): What's up with Air Saban? The 43 passes against Middle Tennessee tied for the most against a nonconference opponent since at least 2007. It's almost like the coach is trying to find a quarterback between Jacob Coker and Cooper Bateman. (Wink!) Revenge match this week vs. Ole Miss.
Michigan State (8): Coach Mark Dantonio had that look in his eyes against Oregon like someone had thrown a crudely fashioned spear into the ground near midfield. "I'd say it's probably one of the best feelings in the world," center Jack Allen said. Rich Homie Quan would agree.
TCU (3): The Frogs stretched their legs a bit after the squeaker against Minnesota. Trevone Boykin threw for four touchdowns in a 70-7 rout of Stephen F. Austin that amounted to little more than a scrimmage.
Baylor (4): Here we go with the selection committee. The Bears smacked the dog out of an FCS nobody (Lamar). Let's see how that plays in December. Corey Coleman caught a school-record four touchdown passes.
Oregon (5): The difference in the Ducks this year is that Marcus Mariota does not miss a wide open Byron Marshall with 90 seconds left. Marcus Mariota does not skip that pass into the turf on fourth-and-16 to end the Ducks' chances. Vernon Adams showed well in a noble effort that did little to extinguish Oregon's playoff hopes.
Notre Dame (6): Since August, four players have gone down with season-ending injuries. Quarterback Malik Zaire was the latest. Backup DeShone Kizer pulled out a last-second win at Virginia, but you wonder what the future holds for the banged-up Irish.
USC (9): The Associated Press' story said, "The whole thing looked like practice ..." Uh, yeah, that's essentially what it was against Idaho. Cody Kessler now has the third-most passing touchdowns in the country (seven) after a 59-9 takedown of the Vandals.
UCLA (14): Jim Mora just might have the best team in the Pac-12. We'll find out more this week against BYU. Josh Rosen threw for 223 yards. Paul Perkins went for 150 yards against UNLV.
Florida State (10): Dalvin Cook for Heisman? As distasteful as that might sound (to some), a Heisman run for the tailback is becoming a reality. Cook, second nationally in rushing, went for 266 yards against South Florida.
Georgia (11): The SEC East looks like it's the Bulldogs' to lose after an easy win over Vanderbilt. Nick Chubb contributed 189 yards on the ground. We'll have to wait until Oct. 3 to find out more. The Dawgs play South Carolina and Southern in the next two weeks.
BYU (23): The legend of Tanner Mangum grows. Another Hail Mary, another win. Why the huge jump in the Power Poll? Not many teams have gone on the road in the Big Ten and knocked off the reigning Fiesta Bowl winner.
Missouri (12): We're just going to have to live with Maty Mauk being scatter-armed at times. Mizzou's quarterback misfired on 20 of 36 attempts but made enough plays with his feet for the Tigers to sneak by Arkansas State.
Clemson (13): The Tigers' snooze of a season will get awakened Thursday at Louisville. We'll see if walkovers against Wofford and Appalachian State masked problems or foreshadowed greatness.
Georgia Tech (15): The Jackets have scored more points in two games (134) than SMU did all of last season (133). Don't know what that means when the opponents are Alcorn State and Tulane. The nation's top rushing offense (by far!) goes to Notre Dame this week.
LSU (17): The Tigers ran only 61 plays against Mississippi State yet held the ball for more than 33 minutes. Get used to it. Until Brandon Harris gets more involved in the offense, there is going to be a heavy dose of Leonard Fournette.
Oklahoma (NR): Baker Mayfield is a gunslinger. It just took a while at Tennessee. Bob Stoops said the double-overtime win may have been his "favorite." That's saying something. The Sooners now should be 5-0 headed to Kansas State on Oct. 17.
Auburn (7): One bad game we could chalk up to opening day jitters. Another clunker by Jeremy Johnson against Jacksonville State and there has to be of genuine concern. Johnson has five interceptions in two games. Nick Marshall had seven all of last season. No rest for the struggling: Auburn goes to LSU this week.
Ole Miss (18): Robert Nkemdiche has established himself as an offensive threat (a touchdown in each of two games). Chad Kelly has established himself as the quarterback (seven series, seven scores vs. Fresno State). Lots of revenge waiting this week at Alabama.
Utah (24): Kendal Thompson takes over for the injured Travis Wilson at quarterback. The defense will hold the Utes in most games, though. Fresno State is next.
Texas A&M (21): New Kyle Field needs its own HGTV show. Call it "Arms Race Palaces." The Aggies broke in the largest stadium in Texas -- chests puffing out! -- by beating Ball State 56-23.
Mississippi State (16): Devon Bell pushed right the potential game-winner from 51 yards against LSU. That was moments before pushing the same kick left. (It didn't count as Les Miles called a last-second timeout.) The Dawgs didn't wake up until they were trailing 21-6 in the fourth quarter.
Wisconsin (19): Miami (Ohio) felt what the Badgers felt in their opener against Alabama -- physically dominated. Joel Stave threw three touchdown passes against the RedHawks.
Houston (NR): Program-defining win for rookie coach Tom Herman. Greg Ward Jr. capped a 17-point fourth quarter by throwing the game-winner with 3:09 left at Louisville. The Cougars are off to only their third 2-0 start since Kevin Sumlin left in 2010.
Northwestern (25): The Wildcats are attempting to become the best in mathletic competition. Stanford in Week 1; Duke this week. In between a skunking of Eastern Illinois. Northwestern is one of four teams yet to allow a touchdown.
